The Houston Astros obtain outfielder Derek Bell‚ infielder Ricky Gutierrez‚ pitcher Pedro Martinez‚ outfielder Phil Plantier‚ and infielder Craig Shipley from the San Diego Padres in exchange for third baseman Ken Caminiti‚ shortstop Andujar Cedeno‚ outfielder Steve Finley‚ first baseman Roberto Petagine‚ pitcher Brian Williams‚ and a player to be named. Pitcher Sean Fesh will go to the Padres the following May to complete the 12-player deal.  This is the biggest deal in the major leagues since 1957.
