On February 11, 1982, the St. Louis Cardinals complete one of their best trades ever, acquiring future Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith from the San Diego Padres for fellow shortstop Garry Templeton. Smith batted only .222 for the Padres in 1981, but will blossom into stardom in St. Louis.
