Free agent outfielder Warren Cromartie signs a three-year contract with the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese League. Cromartie, who batted .278 for the Montreal Expos in 1983, will receive $2.5 million over the length of the contract. The 30 year old is the best American player to goto Nippon Pro Baseball
while still in his prime. He will play in Japan for seven seasons
before returning for one last season in  with the Kansas City Royals in 1991.
