Former big league catcher and infielder Jim Leyritz is arrested on DUI, driving with a suspended license and DUI Manslaughter after his car crashed into another car in Fort Lauderdale Florida and killed the woman driver, Frieda Veitch.  He refuses to take a Breathalyzer test and refuses to give police a blood sample.

In May 2010, Leyritz will settle a civil lawsuit, paying $350,000 to the victim's family.

In November 2010, Leyritz's trial  was finally held. He was acquitted on the DUI Manslaughter charge, but was convicted on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. He was sentenced to one year's probation and a $500 fine.
