The New York Yankees agree to terms on a 4-year contract with Cuban 31 year old right handed pitcher Jose Contreras.  The deal prompts a Red Sox official to call the Yankees an eveil empire.  Contreras defected to Nicaragua where he declared free-agency after gaining residency.
