Next steps for the post-Reyes Mets.

Next steps for the post-Reyes Mets.

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com lists who to blame for Reyes' departure.  He names "Commissioner Bud Selig, principal owner Fred Wilpon and family, former GM Omar Minaya and swindler Bernie Madoff -- probably in that order."

In an ESPN Insider post, Buster Olney writes that the Mets should listen to offers for David Wright. Olney writes "They aren't going to be good enough to win in 2012. At a time when the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers and other teams are looking for a third baseman, Wright would generate offers and could be flipped for a couple of high-end prospects -- but if the Mets wait too long to make Wright available, they'll get almost nothing in return. This is exactly what happened in the case of Reyes."

Buster Olney tweets "David Wright signed through 2012, '13 option. He won't be around when they turn it around; it makes sense for them to take offers for him." @Buster_ESPN

Adam Rubin of ESPN tweets the contrary "Sandy Alderson said Mets will not trade David Wright." @AdamRubinESPN

It would make a lot of sense for the Mets to shop Wright.  The Mets aren't likely to compete for the rest of Wright's contract, so they should try to capitalize on his value. I'm sure while they are at it, they will be seeing if there is any interest at all in Jason Bay and Johan Santana.
