Tigers Release Struggling David Pauley
"David Pauley's statistics for the Mariners in 2011: 5-4, 2.15 ERA, .200 opposing average, 39 games.
His 2011 numbers with the Tigers: 0-2, 5.95, .325, 14 games.
Spring camp brought more of the carnage Pauley experienced after he became part of a huge midseason trade last July between the Mariners and Tigers. And that led Monday to his unconditional release, which was the headline move in a nine-man shuffle that saw eight players return to the minors.
"We tried to give him every opportunity, but sometimes, things just don't work out," manager Jim Leyland said after the Tigers and Mets played to a 7-7 tie at Joker Marchant Stadium.
"I personally want to thank David Pauley. He did everything we asked. I feel badly for him. I know he's better than what he showed. I just hope things work out for him.""
