Utley Leaves Camp, Doubtful For Season Opener

"Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will likely open a second straight season on the disabled list, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Monday morning.

Utley has left Phillies camp to see a specialist about his tendinitis-stricken knees.

"He hasn't been felling all that great," Amaro said. "He hasn't gotten to the point where he feels confident enough to get on the field without making it worse."

The Phillies open the season April 5 in Pittsburgh. Rookie Freddy Galvis is likely to play second base in place of Utley. First baseman Ryan Howard will also open on the DL.

"I would think it's doubtful that [Utley] would be prepared to play second base for us opening day," Amaro said."
