Hafey ... The bespectacled outfielder overcame bad eyes and a bum arm to
post a .317 career average. Not just a slugger, he finished in the top ten in home runs six
times and among leaders in slugging several times as well, but also had
very good speed. He won the 1931 National League batting title on the
final day of the season, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame 40 years
later.
