Kevin Appier
A solid performer who usually pitched for mediocre teams, Kevin Appier was a rotation workhorse in the 1990s. For eight seasons, from 1990-1997, only Appier and Greg Maddux posted an ERA below league average every season. A tall, strong right-hander, Appier whipped his arm toward the plate much like Goose Gossage, flinging his legs and backside at the batter. Relying on his fastball and a good sinker, Appier led the American League in ERA in 1993, and finished among league leaders in strikeouts five times. His hard work paid off in 2002, when he won a World Series ring with the Anaheim Angels after logging 14 wins in the regular season.
