Jim Bibby
Several obstacles, including his own inability to throw strikes, kept Jim Bibby from becoming a big leaguer until he was 27 years old. A tall, intimidating flamethrower, the right-hander seemed to take the mound with the chance of an historic performance each time out. In his second year, 1973, Bibby tossed a no-hitter, one-hitter, two-hitter, two four-hitters, and four five-hitters. In addition, he struck out as many as 15 in one game, and fanned at least 10 seven times. Despite his overpowering stuff, Bibby bounced around, pitching for four teams in his 12-year career.

Feats
On July 30, 1973, Bibby no-hit the Oakland A's, who were in first-place, winning 6-0... On May 19, 1981, Bibby tossed a one-hit, 5-0 victory over the Braves. Atlanta's leadoff man, Terry Harper, singled to start the contest, and Bibby subsequently retired the next 27 batters for his shutout.

Injuries and Explanation for Missed Playing Time
Bibby had 19 wins for Texas entering the final weekend of the 1974 season. He was expected to start the Saturday game but fell ill. The next day he was still sick and missed an opportunity to record his 20th win. Of course, since his record was 19-19, he may have missed his 20th loss.
