Intro

The best shortstop in baseball during the 1970s, lanky Davey Concepcion was a graceful fielder who made himself into a fine hitter and used his speed well on the base paths. He and Joe Morgan formed one of the finest all-around double play combinations in history. In nineteen seasons – all with the Reds – Concepcion played more than 2,100 games at the shortstop position. He was one of the last of the "Big Red Machine" everyday players to retire.

Unform Number

#13 - countless shortstops in Venezuela, including Ozzie Guillen, wore that number in honor of Concepcion.

Quotes About

"The way he helped us, the way he played the game, on offense and defense. He played shortstop for us and he could run very well. He helped us in lots of ways. I [saw] a lot of shortstops in my career, and Davey was one of the best. He ranks right up there with the best." — teammate Tony Perez "You can't separate Davey Concepcion from Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Joe Morgan, or George Foster. Davey was right there with us." — teammate Tony Perez

Best Season

Concepcion turned 25 in June and enjoyed his best overall season. He won his first Gold Glove and played 160 games at shortstop. At the plate he batted .281 with 14 homers and 82 RBI. Later he would top all of those totals, but his total average in '74 (.755) compared to the league, was his best. Concepcion was very fast in his prime, in '74 he stole 41 bases in 47 attempts. Though he wouldn't earn an All-Star berth until '75, Concepcion was the best shortstop in the NL in 1974.

Factoid 1

In 1975, Davey Concepcion scored the 1,000,001st run in baseball history – just seconds after Bob Watson had plated the millionth run for Houston in another contest.

Strengths

Arm strength. Later, after he hurt that strong arm, he worked with Tony Perez to perfect the one-bounce throw to first base. Concepcion was the first to use that method on a consistent basis.

Description

Concepcion perfected the one-bounce throw to first base on the astroturf. He was famous for a great throwing arm (he was originally drafted as a pitcher), and his range was excellent. He consistently stole at least twenty bases and was known for the long leads he would take off the bag.

Shortstops of the National League, 1970s

In the 1970s the National League boasted three shortstops of notoriety. Each played for winning teams. Each usually batted low in the lineup - and each became All-Stars. The three were Bill Russell, Larry Bowa and Davey Concepcion. From 1972 to 1983 all three were starting shortstops in the NL. Bowa went to the post-season with the Phillies five times in those 12 years, Concepcion five times with the Reds, and Russell five times with LA. Bowa and Russell won one World Series title, Davey two. Each of them were right-handed hitters with little power. Concepcion and Bowa played on turf, Russell on grass in a pitchers park. The voters awarded Concepcion the Gold Glove five times (1974-1977, and 1979), Bowa twice (1972 and 1978), while Russell was never considered their equal with the leather. He was a convert to the position, having originally been an outfielder. From 1972 to 1983, their offense broke down like this: Concepcion had a .273 batting average, .373 slugging, and .328 on-base percentage; Bowa came in with .265/.328/.304; Russell was .266/.340/.311. Concepcion hit 84 homers and drove in 734 runs; Bowa's same categories were 15 and 434; Russell's was 39 and 519. Bowa stoled 251 bases; Concepcion swiped 244; Russell was the slowest of the thre by far, and stoled 133. Bowa occassionally hit higher in the lineup and scored some more runs; the three ranked this way in runs created for the 12 year span: Concepcion, Bowa, Russell. They played essentially the same number of games. If you had to choose one of them to start your infield, you'd take Concepcion. He was not only a better offensive player, but contemporary observers overwhelmingly supported him for the Gold Glove Award in most years.

Notes

Even after he had established himself as a starting major league shortstop and had been named to All-Star teams, Concepcion played winter ball, concentrating on his batting and perfecting his fielding skills... In a clubhouse prank in 1976, Concepcion climbed into a dryer. Teammate Pat Zachry pushed the start button and sent the shortstop spinning. Once a dizzy Concepcion emerged from the dryer, the hair on his legs was burned.

Such a squad car has been fully automated with the 1000 miles, there are some in the little manual intervention traveled Nike Jordan Nike Blazers High Mens Melo M9 140,000 miles. This is a landmark development. The last century, cars have sprung up, profoundly changed the human life on earth, after which no Nike Free Run 3 event can be compared. The emergence of individual autonomy because the Nike Air Max 2015 Women car changes have taken place, but the cost is enormous. However, we are entering a new era of private cars - fully automated driving. As a technical expert, I think, in order to better understand the significance of this fabulous autopilot cars, Nike Air Max LUNAR90 C3.0 Women we can see it as a collection of three trends: the things, big data acquisition and real-time technologies. Of course, by no means limited to the development of these three automatic driving car. Things private car was invented in the late 19th century, popular in the 20th century. Now, there are about 600 million cars on the road traveling in this world. The average every 11 people own a car. Although the car is so extensive and important, they are still out of date. Because every car and other cars not in contact with, they are just a piece of metal on their way silently. 'Your car should own the driver's seat.' Google's CEO Eric Schmidt in a recent public statement so prophecy. A few days after Google Nike Hyperdunk 2013 released their automatic Nike Shoes Global driving car. 'I can not believe we actually drive people to the car before the computer was invented is really a historic failure.' The next stage of technological innovation is to have separate Internet items such as cars, buildings, roads and other instruments and networking technology. In networked vehicles, for example: countless data stored in the cloud, skillfully deflected by AI, the AI cars will be able to navigate. This can cause a huge boost safety, efficiency and comfort. The car vividly demonstrated the beautiful picture of things, Nike Air Max 2014 Men but we should also be placed on the picture to see the larger context of the times. 'If you want to market the size of things next conclusion, Nike Air Presto Shoes the same as forecast market size in 1940 plastics.' Professor, Georgetown University, cultural and technological Nike Air Jordan exchanges Michael Nelson said in a report in The Hammersmith Group. He is the former director of IBM Nike Air Max 2015 Men Internet Technology Division, former head of the Federal Communications Commission of Science and Technology Policy Department. 'At that time (1940), it is hard to imagine the plastic will be used on various items. If you take the time now seen as information Nike Free Run 3 Women processing plastic, so you Nike Air Max can imagine the number Nike Hyperchaos Shoes 2013 of logical processors that can be embedded into something . 'Big data acquisition Google is how to make cars drive Nike Blazers themselves part of the reason is that its software part can get incredibly detailed Cheap Nike Free Outlet data:? Nike Air Zoom Flight The Glove world map, speed limit information, real-time image of the surrounding environment, clear visual analysis, as well as by the dynamic on-road vehicles are interwoven mesh of huge images. This is just the information available to a car, it is multiplied by the total number Nike Basketball of the car, I'm sorry, these vehicles have been numerous, think about how much information you can get it. As long as there is a networked device, there is a steady stream of data generated. As long as there is a lot of data, not Choude no pattern analysis, rational decision-making and reasonable proposals. Hard to say Google's automatic driving car is based on the recommendation of a large data Nike Blazers High Womens collection technology, or whether it has gone beyond the recommended techniques for the direct orders. From large scale, large data collection related to decision making. A Google's automatic driving car major decisions Nike Barkley Posite Max easier, since it does not require the automatic process of decision-making part of the human race will participate when driving. As Michael E. Driscoll said:. '. When people from reading → written information circulating freed, generating the information becomes more did not Air Jordan Air Jordan Nike Air Max 2014 Women Heels Outlet hinder the rate and amount of data generated is growing exponentially,' 'With the large data collection Stack technology matures, workflow (visual data analysis → → → Decision) management tool will be more accurate. One day, in the web interface creation Nike Air Max Thea Print Women and sharing of a data analysis as simple as writing a blog. Until then, we . The data scientists have too busy, 'or by the car navigation system to manage data, Nike Air Yeezy II maybe things like development - future autopilot car market will competition with their navigation algorithm, or Nike Jordan Melo B Mo the driver exposure data (generated from vehicle sensors and cameras on) user experience. Real-time data real-time network Nike Air Max actually was narrowly defined as a Nike Free Run 3 Men series of new to Twitter and Facebook. Like real-time automated trading forever changed the large number of real-time video and sensor data push stock markets, the streets between the vehicle and the clouds, will permanently change driving. Accident avoidance is obvious, but more than that. Google spokesman also mentioned the use of a car sharing program, this program can reach potential users guide car side, thus avoiding the occupation of the community valuable parking space. According to the spokesman, then speculated that such a car can be based on real-time data in an existing act, judged them where to go most of the load on a passenger. However, the best embodies the 'real time' in place when you're sitting in the car, watching the car with the continuous showing of the surrounding environment Nike Blazers and make the appropriate decisions when. I want to emphasize that the trend of things, big data acquisition and real-time technology will have far-reaching effects of human activities in many ways. The most obvious example is the magic of science fiction films autonomous vehicles. The impact of technological collections from the car brought far-reaching, both in terms of ecology for the autonomy of psychology, transportation systems, or for urban planning, or is out of control for Nike Shoes the tens of thousands of disappearing under the wheels of life. More far-reaching meaning is: these technologies not only gave birth to such a car, they would be closer to permeate every aspect of our lives, in the near future, to change human life experience. How many of you really care about? This is increasingly worrying, because the services we use are increasing, but our time and attention are still limited. We so much during the Nike Shoes day to accept the 'Didi tick' and 'pop-up', we not only distracted, and then also very hard to return to the matter at hand. Finally, we will service these distractions Obliviate or limit as far as possible to make the notification. Why? Think about it. When you start using a web service, or install a mobile APP, you expect that a particular purpose, or to meet your initial needs, you do not mind a variety of notification, as long as they have enough, 'interrupted value ', meaning that they are useful or interesting enough to distract you. The problem is that only a few notifications follow this rule. As a user, I hate this; from the viewpoint of the Air Jordan 17 product side, the notice more Air Jordan 11 than just inform users of major errors, APP crashes or a new instant messaging has a greater potential. This is a powerful marketing tool that can communicate directly with the user, to convey the right information at the right time and place to enhance the user viscosity. But how will such a way contrary to the user experience, into a thing of the product and users have meaning and role? 1. The importance of notice before delving into the design, ask Air Jordan 17 yourself, 'I really need to inform you?' It sounds ridiculous, but some did not notice should appear on the user's screen. Sometimes we follow the 'visible state of the system,' the ease of enlightenment, each one has done a design error, but you really need to know? If the message than just information, it does not need to make any Nike King reaction system, it may not be so Nike Hyperdunk important. On the other hand, if a major error occurs, the performance of the service depends on the user, or APP operations may result in loss of important data, then notify the user and the product side is a kind of convenient. Google Chrome crash notification page Nike Air Yeezy is a good example. 2. Relevance and timeliness of the notifying best way to keep connected and are put to good use the previous user data analysis. There's nothing better than the statistics reflect the actual behavior of the user information. When designing notice, attention to product usage data, as well as any other information gathered by the target audience. This helps to inform the user is closely related to increase the chance of dialogue. Relevance also timely, you have to notify the user when it is most difficult to ignore. Obviously, the night is not the best time to send the notification. When it comes to collecting user data area, and they are more inclined to view the message time, user statistics helpful. 3. customized products customized features is a good idea, especially when it comes to notice. This is not to say that allows users to turn off all the types of notifications (although, as everyone likes), but to customize participatory content. When the user selects which notification is received or rejected, they will be very happy to see themselves when selected. If your product has just come out, the design notification system does not have sufficient user data can rely on, customization is a good choice. After some time, you will clearly see which notifications useful to the user, are associated, in a timely manner, which needs to be rethought. 4. straightforward matter what the content of the notification message is to make sure it fit the user's language and customs, direct and image. Keep the information easy to understand. Avoid using 'you make it!' Or '100% free' The spam-like vocabulary. Try to make information concise yet easy to understand. Do not let the message reminding wording to the user frustration. After all, the notification is a channel of communication; you have to maintain a unified brand image and message tone, while maintaining friendly and rich creativity. 5. There are a lot of effective ways to communicate and convey various types of notification methods: SMS, Air Jordan 18 e-mail notification, move APP push message, web notifications, popups tips and more. To manage these notifications, and make better use of them, we need according to the type of interaction, it will be divided into two groups according to the conditions: 'product for the user's notice' and 'user on the user's notice.' According to the service type and user goals, these two sets of notification may have different priorities. For example, a user may be more interested in knowing Instagram photographs which have him / her, or what the new Facebook friend added, rather than to the APP score. Find out which type of notification and convey way more easily perceived by the user is the key to the whole body of the notification mention any application experience.
