Carl Crawford
Voted the fastest player in the major leagues by his peers, Carl Crawford gained attention because of his blazing speed, but gradually earned respect as a solid hitter, as well. In his first full season with the Devil Rays, the 21-year old left fielder swiped 55 bases and batted .281 with little power. Over the next two seasons, the left-handed batter increased his average to over .300 and won a second stolen base crown. He hit 15 or more triples in three straight seasons through 2006, something that hadn't been done in 76 years.
Quotes About Crawford
"I think if you come to the ballpark and you see Carl hit a triple, you've had a pretty good day. It's pretty much a signature play for him. Because when he hits the ball down the line, or in the gap, he's thinking three. He never thinks two. He breaks [for a] triple. He wants triple, he takes triple." — manager Joe Maddon
