Frankie Crosetti
In a Yankee career that stretched from Babe Ruth to Mickey Mantle, Frankie Crosetti won seven World Series titles as a player and nine as a coach. He participated in a staggering 23 World Series as a player or coach. As a player, Crosetti was fast, leading the American League in steals in 1938 and finishing among league leaders three other times. When he died on February 12, 2002, he was one of the last men to have played with Ruth.
Played For
New York Yankees (1932-1948)
Best Season: 1936
At the age of 25 Crosetti batted .288 with 15 homers and 78 RBI (all were career-highs). He stole 18 bases and scored 137 runs. He walked 90 times and collected 35 doubles and seven triples. His 182 hits were also a personal-best.
Crosetti was there at the 1932 World Series when Babe Ruth hit his mythical "called shot" home run in the World Series. Crosetti claimed Ruth was pointing to the Cubs bench, not at the bleachers. In 1939, Crosetti was in Yankee Stadium and in uniform for Lou Gehrig Day, when the legendary slugger said goodbye to his fans and teammates. In 1948, Crosetti was on-hand for Ruth's farewell speech, and he was also on-hand for DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak, each of Mickey Mantle's 18 World Series homers, and Don Larsen's perfect game in the '56 Fall Classic.
