Quick Move Alvin
Crowder was credited with one of the best moves to first during his prime. He was so good at throwing to first that he rarely even tossed over to the bag, as intimidation was enough to keep runners honest. "There's no nned for me to go over there," Crowder explained, "those runners know I'll pick them off if they get too far off the bag, and they stay close. All I do is cock my head the same way whenever I'm ready to pitch, and if I can see the man on first out of the corner of my eye I don't bother with him. If I can see him, I know he's too far off, and he's mine."
