Pitching for Yale against St. John's in the College World Series on May 22, 1981, Darling struck out 16 batters (an NCAA tournament record) in 12 innings, but lost to Frank Viola, 1-0... Darling appeared in the 2001 film, Shallow Hal, starring Jack Black. He also appeared in the 2004 thriller, The Day After Tomorrow.
