Marquis Grissom

With the Montreal Expos in the early 1990s, Marquis Grissom was a speedy leadoff man who paced the National League in stolen bases twice. Roaming center field, Grissom won four consecutive Gold Glove Awards, displaying great range and the ability to leap the wall to snatch away would-be homers. Traded to his hometown Braves, Grissom helped Atlanta to the World Series title in 1995, and later won the ALCS MVP Award with Cleveland in 1997. With his combination of speed and power (he hit as many as 20 homers in a season five times), Grissom conituned to be a valuable role player as he neared his 40s.

Best Season: 1996
In his second season with the Braves, Grissom ripped a career-best 207 hits, scored 106 runs, and hit 23 homers, while batting .306 and winning his fourth Gold Glove for his play in center field. Grissom enjoyed a 28-game hitting streak, from July 25 through August 24, batting .386 during the stretch.

Post-Season Notes
An excellent post-season performer, through 2005, grissom had played in 52 post-season games, scoring 34 runs. He had batted .317 with 15 extra-base hits and 20 RBI. His teams had won seven of ten post-season series, including Atlanta's only World Series title, in 1995. In the 1995 NLDS against the Rockies, Grissom hit three homers in the first two games, both victories for Atlanta. he also batted .444 with 12 hits and five RBI in the 1996 World Series loss to the Yankees.
