Notes
These two notes are from research done by author and noted historian Jules Tygiel:

Heitmuller is best remembered in Northern California for his role in the 1903 football game between Stanford and Cal. In the final minute, he blocked a punt and recovered the ball in the end zone to secure a 6-6 tie for Cal.

In 1912, he led the PCL in batting under the most usual circumstances. On September 20, 1912, he was in second place, but was felled by typhoid fever. Del Howard, the league leader, went into a slump and Heitmuller won the batting title. Heitmuller was also leading the league in home runs, but lost the title to Bert Coy. Heitmuller died on October 8, 1912, from the typhoid.
