Kenny Lofton

An All-American basketball player, Kenny Lofton chose baseball as a career. It was a good choice. The speedster led the league in stolen bases five times, won four Gold Gloves for his stellar play in center field, and earned six All-Star nods. As the Indians'leadoff man, Lofton sparked a powerful offense, scoring 100 runs six times and batting over .300 five times. He batted .349 in the strike-shortened 1994 season, and hit .310 the next year, when Cleveland won their first pennant in 40 years. He set a post-season record with 32 steals.
