Tim McCarver
One of the best catcher sin the National League in the 1960s, Tim McCarver was a solid backstop on three Cardinals pennant-winners. He was so good at handling pitchers that he ended up playing until he was 38 years old, having become the first receiver to catch games in four different decades. After his playing career, McCarver spurned offers to stay in the game as a coach or manager, and embarked on a highly-successful career as a broadcaster.
