Jim Nash

Big Jim Nash broke in with a splash in 1966, winning 12 of 13 decisions for the lowly Kansas City Athletics. At 6-feet, 5-inches, Nash was an imposing man on the mound, who featured a powerful fastball and a breaking pitch that kep batters off-balance. He never won more than 13 games in a season, however, and by the age of 27 he was out of the big leagues, largely due to control problems.

Played For
Kansas City Athletics (1966-1967)
Oakland Athletics (1968-1969)
Atlanta Braves (1970-1972)
Philadelphia Phillies (1972)

Best Season: 1966
Over his last eight starts, Nash went 5-0 with a 1.29 ERA, while striking out 48 in 55 2/3 innings. He was also very good in 1968, when he went a stretch of 10 starts from May 6 to June 23, where he allowed just seven earned runs in 82 innings (0.77 ERA). During that span he fanned 63 and walked 14. This was unusual for Nash, who would occasionally have freakish outings where he would walk eight batters in five innings, and so on. On September 2 of that season, Nash shut out the first-place Tigers on four hits while striking out 10.
