Jim O'Rourke
The first man to get a hit in a National League game, Jim O'Rourke was one of the best, if not the best player, in the 1870s. He hit .300 or better 13 times, and was frequently among league leaders in almost every offensive category. he played well into his 40s, and remained active as president of two different minor leagues, and as a minor league manager. The hard-hititng left fielder was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1945, decades after his death.
