Flint Rhem

Once, when Flint Rhem was called on the carpet by Cardinals' owner Sam Breadon for staying out late the night before, he claimed innocence. "I was out with Alex [Pete Alexander]," Rhem pleaded. "And we know how you want us all to watch out for Alex, and that's the trouble. He had one quart of liquor, and to keep him from drinking too much, I drank most of it." Not withstanding his nightlife, as a 25-year old, Rhem won 20 games for the Cardinals. The next season and arm injury kept him to just 10 wins, and he never won 20 again.
