Ferdie Schupp

Slender left-hander Ferdie Schupp won 37 of his 61 career victories in two seasons, the only two seasons in which he was a starting pitcher full-time during his ten-year career. Much of the time, he was used out of the bullpen, rescuing teamates who struggled in the final innings. Long before the save rule was invented, Schupp finished games for John McGraw's Giants, closing out 15 game sin 1915 and 17 more in 1916. He went 21-7 and led the National League in winning percentage as a starter in 1917. In Game Four of the World Series, he shut out the White Sox.

Transactions
July 16, 1919: Traded by the New York Giants to the St. Louis Cardinals for Frank Snyder.

Another one of McGraw's nifty moves. Schupp pitched miserably in 1918 and was scuffling in 1919, when he was dealt for Snyder, who was one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. "Pancho" Snyder gave the Giants nearly a decade of stellar play behind the dish, helping them to four straight pennants from 1921-1924. Cardinals' manager and GM Branch Rickey deserves the blame for this one.

June 18, 1921: Traded by the St. Louis Cardinals with Hal Janvrin to the Brooklyn Robins for Jeff Pfeffer.

December, 1921: Purchased by the Chicago White Sox from the Brooklyn Robins.
