Robby Thompson

In each of his eleven seasons in the big leagues, Robby Thompson was the opening day starter at second base for the San Francisco Giants. A career .257 hitter, Thompson had a career year in 1993 when he batted .312 with a career-high in hits, doubles, homers, and RBI's. He was a two-time All-Star and won the Gold Glove in 1993. His seventh inning, two-run homer against the Cubs was the winning margin in Game Three of the 1989 National League Championship Series.

It was the only season he hit over .300 and he set career-highs in almost every offensive category. Thompson also won his only Gold Glove Award, though he should have won a few sooner, but in typical fashion the voters only recognized him when he had a solid season with the bat.
