Gee Walker

Had he ran for mayor of Detroit in the 1930s, it's likely that Gee Walker would have won in a landslide. The hard-hitting outfielder from Mississippi won over Motor City fans with his hustle and good looks. In seven seasons in a tiger uniform, he hit .317, and when he was traded to the White Sox in 1937, there was a public outcry in Detroit. Walker was never as succesful after his trade from Detroit, but he still managed a .294 career average and nearly 2,000 hits. In his prime he was a top-notch flychaser who consistently led non-center fielders in putouts.
